George Zambellas

George Zambellas served as First Sea Lord in the mid-2010s, when the Royal Navy was focused on regeneration, personnel retention, and the long-term shape of the future fleet. His Admiralty leadership belonged to a period of institutional rebuilding as well as operational commitment.
The office in Zambellas’s time had to address issues of morale, recruitment, equipment planning, and the recovery of larger capabilities. The First Sea Lord remained both a strategic adviser and the public professional head of the service.
